Gennie & Daniel… married (in COSTA RICA)!
Here’s a life tip.
When your friend Gennie e-mails you and asks you to photograph her destination wedding, say yes. When she asks if it will be too difficult to travel during the school year, simply say the following: “I will make it work.“
Then, when you meet her fiancée Daniel, decide he’s one of the most likable people you’ve met. It’s the only reasonable response.
And when she tells you that their chosen location is COSTA RICA, dance in the middle of the street. Go ahead; it’s fine. No cars are coming.
Finally, fly to Costa Rica. Point at the monkeys and say, “Awww.” Stay at the Four Seasons. Drink the frozen cappuccino that’s brought to you — poolside — because apparently that’s just what they do. And appreciate the fact that the wedding guests are some of the nicest folks this side of the equator.
Oh, and maybe take some pictures. When you finish your cappuccino, I mean.
Sometimes it rains in Costa Rica. You’ll see.
And then the skies opened. All the guests – and wedding party - and photographer – had to wait in the bar (rough life, right?) and/or lobby until it passed.
Only it didn’t.
Finally, everyone admitted defeat… and the ceremony was moved indoors.
But a little rain/location change wasn’t going to change how happy everyone was to see these two get married….
…or how happy these two were to get married to each other.
Remember how I said these wedding guests were some of the nicest people this side of the equator? Here’s your proof: As I raced around the room, frowning over my [admittedly inconsistent] flash, directing people with 0% of my voice working (I finally started putting my hands on people’s shoulders to move them where I wanted them to stand), and sweating like WHOA in the 200% humidity, I received multiple offers of water and a handful of high fives. True story.
It was a terrific weekend.
Gennie and Daniel: Congrats times a million!!! Your wedding was spectacular, and I am so proud to have photographed it.
